This is indeed a violation of the commandment that "You shall have no other gods before me."
God is everywhere. God is in everything. If you do not see God in everything and everywhere then you are worshiping a false god. IF you see the God up in heaven only and deny His omnipresence, you are worshiping an idol. Don`t dance around golden calf...
